Svetlana Talan. 9 questions for the writer
How did it all start? What was the decisive impetus for you?
It all started with my husband's suggestion to write a book. I liked his idea, I stayed up all night, and in the morning I started writing my first novel.
Which book should everyone read, and why?
Everyone can't enjoy the same dishes, just like in literature. It's worth reading something that appeals to your soul, touches a nerve, sticks in your memory for a long time, makes you change something in your life, in yourself. There is also literature that needs to be read, for example, works about the history of our country.
The most vivid memory of childhood?
I was about 3-4 years old when my godmother gave me a lot of balloons. I asked her if we could fly with them, and she said that if there were a lot of them, there would be wind, and we could accelerate well and push off the ground. Throughout my life, I often kick off the ground in a dream and fly up on balloons.
What associations does the word "happiness" evoke in you? And what does it mean to you personally?
Only two years ago, I would have considered myself happy if my dream had come true: to travel by car with my husband from Crimea to the Carpathians, but now I would consider the news that the war was over and the peaceful and calm sky over Ukraine was back.
What do you value most about people?
Sincerity, kindness, loyalty.
What new and interesting things have you discovered lately?
When I lived in a city occupied by invaders, I realized how sincerely I love my land, my city, our language, our flag, songs, clothes, and the like. And it was a discovery, because only when you lose it all do you realize the true value of what you had. I will never forget the day of the liberation of the city, when I saw the blue and yellow flag on the streets... I cried so much!
Or were you going through a period of creative crisis? If so, how did you manage to overcome it?
My first book was published three years ago, and I've been working all the time since. I wrote even when there was shelling and the table was bouncing from the explosions. When there are problems in my life, I work even harder and work saves me from them. I don't want you to feel what a creative crisis this is.
If you had a chance to relive a day from the past, would you take it? Why?
I've never had a carpet laid in front of me in my life, and in order to achieve something, I have to go through obstacles. Therefore, I would not like to go back and start all over again. Sometimes I regret an early failed marriage, but if it hadn't been for her, my son wouldn't have been born, so let everything stay the way it is.
Which of the works you have written is your favorite?
I love my characters that I write about, then I reread what I've written several times, the novel starts to seem not so successful, and then work begins on a new work and I like it again until you start telling it off, and so on...
